Natural dyes - Laurel Berries

Not much to say about this one. The Laurel berries in my garden stain my fingers a lovely purple but after boiling them to make a dye the silk cloth came out..... brown. In fact, it looks identical to the cherry tree dye. It is quite a nice rich brown though. The photo doesn't do it justice.

As I don't have any mordant yet I experimented a bit. I dyed three pieces of silk, one was simmered in salt water, one in vinegar and one just left to soak in water before I dyed them. The final results were similar although the vinegar one was half a shade brighter.
